A probe lens puts the front element at the end of a long, narrow barrel, well away from the camera body and matte box. That lets you push the lens into places a conventional cine lens can't reach: inside a glass, between products on a sweep, down at ground level in a miniature set or right up to a subject only millimetres away, while the camera stays clear of the frame and the lighting.
The DZOFilm X-Tract brings zoom to that format. Its 18-28mm range (100° to 73° horizontal on full frame) holds a constant T8, and the ø43.2mm image circle covers full frame and Super 35.
